"The mind is like an umbrella. It is most useful when open."
Walter Gropius was a visionary leader whose work to establish the Bauhaus in 1919 would set forth a machine in motion that has proven an unstoppable force in design. His dedication to architecture weathered the storm of World War II and banishment from Nazi Germany. Through this difficulty he found a new voice and became a pioneer of modernist architecture. Perhaps more impactful than his own work, Gropius educated an entire generation of German architects who would go on to build around the world and inspire many other fields of design.
GoArchitect honors the late Walter Gropius with a notebook that celebrates his ideal that we must all rethink our assumptions and strive for new wisdom.
The Bauhaus legacy turned 100 on April 2019.
